I sat next to two young ladies from Boston: Leah and Nicole. Leah works for a tour company and Nicole was her traveling companion. They have known each other since childhood. Leah also is a photographer and has a website:
www.leahramuglia.com
I plan to check out some of her photos when I return home. She should post pictures of their safari once they return. Nicole is a bartender in Boston near Fenway stadium. Both ladies were pleasant conversationalists and helped the long flight pass quickly.
If you are going to come to Tanzania get your visa ahead of time. I did and most people did not. The visa line was long and I walked through customs in less than 5 minutes. You still have to wait for your bags but you can sit and rest while you do that. Once I got my bag, I proceeded out of the airport to meet our guide. His name was Kaseem and he will be with us until we arrive at the park gate in two days. I met my traveling companions: Lisa a caterer from Boston. She also runs a undergraduate club at Harvard. Mike and June are traveling together. Mike is a radiologist. June is going to school to learn computer networking. They are from Georgia.
We transferred to KIA lodge. Our rooms are in small lodges scattered about the grounds. Here is what they look like:
I stayed up packing and repacking to get my bags in order until after midnight. I had to sort what I was going to carry, what the porter would carry and what I would leave with the guide for the Safari. By the way, none of the others are taking the Safari extension. Lisa is going back , Mike and June are heading to Zanzibar. I'm too excited to sleep well, but I am going to try.
